You learn more from experience, and your time at university is a great way to get out of your comfort zone and explore your interests.

Joining clubs and getting involved in extra-curricular activities will help you stand out after graduation and your university has something for everyone. The following are 3 clubs you should join whilst at university that will expand your horizons and help your personal development.

1) Sport club

Grades, money, revision; university can put you under pressure and exercising will help with your mental wellbeing as well as physical.

Consider joining a club that will keep you fit, you can join the cheerleading squad, the basketball team or trampolining. Camaraderie with your peers, healthy competition and keeping fit is a wonderful way to look after yourself, without even knowing you are.

2) An intellectual club

Keep those juices flowing outside of the lectures to enrich your mind.

There’s lots of societies you can join, such as history, law, or IT (you needn’t be studying it to get involved in it!)

So, consider the debating or book club, or perhaps take up chess. You’ll learn something every session.

3) The media outlet

If you like writing, why not join your magazine outlet?

If you’re into editing and creating films, then you can join the TV branch and have a portfolio to show on YouTube.

Or if you’re into sound production, you can join the radio division of the media society.

The possibilities are there, and often you don’t need the technical digital skills to join – you can learn them.

Make the best of your time at uni and joining these 3 clubs is a great way to meet new people, develop your experience, skills and you as a person. What clubs will you join?
