With overseas restrictions beginning to lift, many of us will be eager to pack our bags and hop on a plane to our first holiday of 2021. For others, a peaceful UK break will be more appealing. If you’re unsure of where to travel this Summer break, we’ve got you - we’ll break down a mix of Green and Amber list countries and stunning UK getaways below.

France

With low infection rates and rising vaccination figures, France is on the Amber List for travel this year, meaning you have to quarantine upon your return to the UK. France truly has something for everyone - from glorious Corsican beaches to backroads cycling. If you’d prefer a relaxing getaway to the French countryside, there are plenty of options available - from picnics along the riverside in Macon, museum trips in Cluny and sightseeing in the medieval village of Avignon. For the more adventurous types, you can book a ski trip in the French Alps - even on a student budget!

Iceland

Iceland is on the Green List, meaning with a negative Covid-19 PCR test upon arrival in Iceland and return to the UK, you’re more than welcome to explore. There is so much to do in Iceland - from nights out in Reykjavik to whale watching in Iceland’s coastal waters. You can even have a dip in a natural hot pool or even catch the Northern lights. There are so many natural wonders in Iceland, it’s truly worth the visit.

Australia

A negative PCR test is required to enter Australia. A bucket list country for many, there is so much to do and see. From theme parks on the Gold Coast to Great White Shark Tours, there’s certainly plenty of attractions available for thrill-seekers. For those less inclined towards adventure-seeking, a relaxing city break in Sydney might be more appealing. See the Opera House, Harbour Bridge or the Royal Botanic Garden

Cornwall

For those not quite ready to travel out of the country, there are plenty of places in the UK well worth a visit. Cornwall is a popular holiday spot for many - with beautiful beaches, restaurants and stunning coastal walks. St Michaels Mount is a must-see - a historic coastal Island, only accessible at low tide. The Eden Project is a wonderful educational experience, where you truly get to see the importance of protecting nature. For those wanting a traditional British holiday, with fish and chips and glorious coastal paths, try Mevagissey or Pentewan.

London

If you’ve never visited London, you’re missing out. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy - from the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tours, to West End Shows and the London Eye. For those comfortable with heights, dine from the top of The Shard. For those wanting a more relaxed trip, there are plenty of shops and restaurants available - buy yourself a Tube pass and explore!

The Lake District

Fancy a holiday up North? Try the Lake District for a beautiful getaway full of countryside walks and boat trips. You can hire a boat, take a cruise or even go for a swim. As one of the darkest places in the UK, the Lake District is ideal for stargazing.

Those are our top six travel recommendations for holidays abroad and in the UK. Remember, travel responsibly and be sure to adhere to any Covid-19 guidelines or restrictions, wherever you visit. Stay safe and enjoy your summer!
